Space Probes & Satellites

There are many different space probes and satellites that have entered space. The following chart contains some probes & satellites.

 Probe/Satellite  Information
 Magellan  A space probe with special radar cameras.
 Pathfinder & Sojourner  The space probe Pathfinder landed on Mars in 1997 carrying a small vehicle called the Sojourner rover, which drove around exploring sending data and images back to Earth.
 Pioneers 10 & 11  Space probes that observe Jupiter & Saturn. Pioneer 10 was launched on March 2, 1972.
 Hubble Space Telescope  A telescope put into orbit in 1990. It contains a refelecting telescope and has solar panels that change light energy into electrical energy.
 Deep Space 1  A probe sent to explore minor bodies. It was launched in 1998.
 IRAS  A probe that detects ojects in spacce that emit very small amounts of heat. It was launched in 1983.
 Salyut 1  The first space station. It was put into orbit in 1971.
 Alouette 1  A satellite used for scientific research. It was put into orbit in 1962. It is Canadian.
 RADARSAT  A satellite system used to construct radio-wave images of Earth. It is Canadian.
 Anik series It is the first satellite for domestic communications put into geosynchronous orbit.
 GPS  The Global Positioning System. A small device that recieves signals from 3 or more of the orbiting satellites.
